If you are seeking a credit card for grocery spending without an annual fee, AmEx Blue Cash Everyday Card appears to be a fairly good option. This credit card offers a combination of solid cash back rewards and an intro APR period – something that may well appeal to many customers. Let’s consider this credit card in detail in this review.

The first and foremost thing one has to mention is that this card comes without an annual fee. There are, indeed, some better AmEx credit cards in terms of cash back rewards (such as Blue Cash Preferred Card), but they come with an annual fee. Also, you need to have at least a good credit in order to get this credit card.

When it comes to cash back rewards you would get with a Blue Cash Everyday Card, they are definitely decent. First of all, you will receive 3% cash back on purchases at U.S. supermarkets for the first $6,000 in a year. This means that you can get up to $180 in cash back rewards in U.S. supermarkets for that sum. After that, the rewards rate will be dropped to 1% until the end of the year.

Other rewards include 2% cash back for purchases made at gas stations and select department stores. But this cash back is unlimited. Besides, you will get 1% cash back on all other purchases. You will receive cash back in a form of Rewards Dollars, and you can exchange them for gift cards, statement credits, or merchandise.

Apart from it, this card comes with a 0% intro APR period on both balance transfers and purchases, and it will last for 15 months. Basically, you get a free financing, and the 15-month term is quite a decent offer. If you manage to spend $1,000 within the first 90 days, you will get $150 in a statement credit. Even though that’s not bad at all, Chase Freedom Unlimited, for example, offers an equal sign-up bonus after spending just $500.

Overall, this is a decent credit card for customers who tend to have heavy spending at groceries. However, there are serious disadvantages – such as a high requirement for getting a sign-up bonus or solid limitations on cash back rewards at U.S. supermarkets. If you are looking for a credit card with generous cash back rewards and intro APR period, we highly recommend you to consider applying for Citi Double Cash Card.

Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express

Best credit cards from American Express

Annual fee: $95.

Purchase APR: from 14.99% to 25.99% variable.

Recommended credit score: from 690 to 850.

Most suitable for: customers with heavy spending at supermarkets.

If you spend $6,000 at U.S. supermarkets in a year, we highly recommend you to consider applying for Blue Cash Preferred Card instead of Blue Cash Everyday Card. Even though this card comes with an annual fee, it will be paid off if you spend that (or lower) sum at U.S. supermarkets. Let’s consider this card in detail.

Unlike the previously reviewed card, Blue Cash Preferred comes with an annual fee of $95, which is rather high. The requirements are the same as for the previous American Express credit card. However, applying for this credit card may well pay off.

This AmEx credit card grants 6% cash back on purchases made at U.S. supermarkets (for the first $6,000 in a year, then 1%). This means that if you spend $6,000 a year at U.S. supermarkets, you will earn $360 in cash back – twice as much as $180 offered by Blue Cash Everyday Card. Considering that you will get $180 more in cash back only for the purchases made at U.S. supermarkets, it will pay off the annual fee of the credit card. In a result, you will earn $85 more in cash back only at U.S. supermarkets.

But there are more generous bonuses in regards to everything else as well. In terms of other rewards, you will also get 3% cash back on purchases made at gas stations and department stores – 1% more than you would get with Blue Cash Everyday. You will also enjoy 1% cash back on all other purchases.

Another difference is that you will earn a $200 statement credit bonus after spending $1,000 within the first three months – a bonus similar to what Wells Fargo Cash Wise offers. And that’s actually a much better offer than the one of Blue Cash Everyday. But there is a slight disadvantage too: you will receive 0% intro APR period only for 12 months.

Overall, you should definitely apply for this credit card if you spend a lot at U.S. supermarkets. This will allow you to benefit from more generous rewards. As our review has shown, you may quickly pay off the annual fee of this credit card. But if you are looking for other types of rewards, there are better American Express credit cards.

The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express

In case you are looking for a travel credit card, then the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card may be a perfect option for you. Basically, this is one of the best American Express credit cards for travel, and we will disclose the details of this credit card in this review.

To start with, we should say that the card comes without an annual fee in the first year. Yet, you will be charged an annual fee of $95 during the next and following years. One should also mention that you will receive bonus points for purchases you make. Bonus points are highly flexible (read about this below) and are equal to around $0.009. This means that you will earn at least 1.8% on the purchases you make with this card – this is higher than the average among such credit cards.

Apart from that, you will get 6 points for every dollar spent on eligible purchases at SPG and Marriott hotels. This means that if you prefer to stay at these hotels when traveling, you will earn cash back of 5.4%. But you should apply for this card only before making large purchases, as you will get 75,000 points after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months. Actually, that reward is easily exchanged for $675 – this is rather a decent bonus, which barely can be matched by another credit card.

Considering that this is a travel credit card from AmEx, it is natural that it comes without a foreign transaction fee. This makes using this card abroad as simple, convenient, and beneficial. For every card anniversary each year, you will receive a free night at a hotel, which can be estimated at around $90-$100.

In terms of how you can spend your points, there are different options. Basically, SPG and Marriott offer quite flexible terms. The easiest way to spend these points would be to do it at the properties of these companies, as they offer a wide selection of hotel and resort brands where you can stay. But apart from that, you can transfer these points to the partner airlines and get tickets or other extra benefits.

To sum up, this credit card from American Express is one of the best travel credit cards on the market. Especially that stands true about those customers who care about where they stay. If you want to get a credit card with generous rewards, there no reason why you shouldn’t get this card.
