ANZ Bank: Introduction

ANZ Bank, known also as ANZ Bank New Zealand Limited, is the largest financial group that is based in New Zealand. The bank is headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand, and it operates as a subsidiary of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group. The bank received its current name in 2012, when it underwent a merger between banks and rebranding process.

As a matter of fact, the roots of this bank can be traced to as early as 1840, when Union Bank of Australia was first opened. That was the office of a British bank that agreed to open the office in Australia in order to serve the settlers and provide them with financial services. ANZ Bank was formed in 1951 after the merger of Bank of Australasia and UBA. The ANZ Group was formed in 1970.

At the time of writing this article, the number of employees at this group exceeded 9,000. The group also has several subsidiaries: Direct Broking Limited (a brokerage firm it has purchased in 2006) and UDC Finance Limited (a firm that provides asset financing). The key products of this financial group include cheque accounts, insurance, consumer finance, asset-based lending, investment banking, and stock brokerage.
