Barclays Bank: Introduction
Barclays Bank, which is also known as Barclays plc, appears to be a British multinational financial institution, which is headquartered in London. The origins of this bank can be traced to as early as 1690, when several partners were engaged in the goldsmith banking business. James Barclay became their partner in 1736 and, hence, the name for this bank appeared.
Over the next several centuries after the bank’s foundation, it had gradually expanded. In 1896, several banks in London and English provinces formed Barclays and Co, and that was the time when the bank had gone nationwide. It is, however, worth to point out that Barclays was the first bank in the world to use cash dispenser. In 2009, it acquired the remaining of Lehman Brothers.
As of the present time, Barclays appears to have the primary listing on the London stock exchange and tends to be a part of the FTSE 100 index. The business of this financial corporation is separated into four parts: wealth management, investment banking, commercial banking, and retail banking. The bank serves customers worldwide.
