Chase Bank: Introduction
Before we will dive deeper into the Chase Bank online banking program, it is worth to trace the roots of this bank. Actually, its history dates back to as early as 1799, when the Bank of the Manhattan Company was established in New York. At that time, it was only the second bank in the United States, which aimed to rival the Bank of New York of Alexander Hamilton.
In 1877, Chase National Bank, named after a US treasury secretary Salmon P. Chase, was founded. That bank acquired a large number of smaller banks up to the 1920’s, but the larger acquisition so far was the purchase of the Equitable Trust Company of New York in 1930, which belonged then to J. Rockefeller. In 1955, however, a merger of Chase National Bank and Bank of the Manhattan Company occurred.
It was, however, the year of 2000 when J.P. Morgan & Co acquired Chase Bank, which resulted in the formation of the bank that we have known up till the present time. Even though J.P. Morgan was the nominal survivor, the company decided to retain the name of Chase Bank since it was more known (especially abroad). Nowadays, Chase bank, along with Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Citibank, is included in the Big Four Banks of America.
In 2016, the number of workers employed by Chase Bank almost equaled 190,000. At the same time, the gross revenues of this financial corporation reached more than $81 billion. Chase Bank is managed through JPMorgan Chase & Co, its parent company. As of the present time, this financial institution operates on a global scale, while having different types of operations in more than 100 countries.
