Halifax Bank: Introduction
Halifax is a British bank that nowadays operates as a division of Bank of Scotland. The history of Halifax can be traced to as early as 1853, when the bank was opened as the Halifax Permanent Benefit Building and Investment Society. Later on, this company chose to grow organically – instead of expanding by mergers and acquisitions in a way other building societies did.
It was only 1928 when that company merged with Halifax Equitable Building Society, thus forming Halifax Building Society. Over the years, the company gradually developed and, in a result, was acquired by Lloyds Group in 2009. For a certain period of time, Halifax was a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
As of the present time, the bank is owned by Lloyds Banking Group, which, in turn, also owns such companies like Lloyds Bank plc, Bank of Scotland plc, and Lloyds Development Capital. Lloyds Bank Group employs more than 75,000 workers.
