Huntington Bank: Introduction
Huntington Bank, which is also known as Huntington Bancshares, is often included in the lists of the oldest and largest financial institutions in the United States. The bank was first opened by P. W. Huntington back in 1866 and was called as P. W. Huntington & Company. Back in 1905, the bank was incorporated as The Huntington National Bank of Columbus. Already by 1922, the bank had received the full trust powers from the Federal Reserve System.
Over time, this bank has gradually developed and expanded – typically by acquiring smaller banks. Just back in 2016, for example, Huntington Bank acquired First Merit Group. Nowadays, Huntington Bank is considered to be one of the largest banks in the United States.
At the present time, Huntington Bank has 956 branches in different American states: 458 branches in Ohio, 303 in Michigan, as well as in Pennsylvania (50), Indiana (42), Illinois (37), Wisconsin (31), West Virginia (25), and Kentucky (10). Apart from it, Huntington Bank also has business offices in Hong Kong, Cayman Islands, and Florida.
