M&S Bank: Introduction

M&S Bank, the full name of which is Marks & Spencer Financial Services plc, appears to be a British retail bank. It was founded back in 1985 at St. Michael Financial Services, and it operated the “Chargecard” store card of Marks and Spencer. In 1988, however, it was renamed to Marks & Spencer Financial Services.

In 2004, this bank was sold to HSBC, a major British bank and one of the largest banks in the world. However, the companies agreed to share the profits of the M&S Bank until at least 2019. As of 2012, the bank started opening M&S Bank branches in the existing retail stores of the M&S chain.

As of the present time, the bank provides insurance, credit, and banking products to retail customers. Online and mobile banking services are available, too. Moreover, the bank recently launched its brand of mortgages in an attempt to attract more customers.
