National Westminster Bank: Introduction

NatWest is also known as National Westminster Bank and tends to be a major commercial and retail bank in the United Kingdom. Even though the origins of this bank can be traced to as early as 1658, still the foundation date is considered to be 1968 – the year when Westminster Bank and National Provincial Bank merged. The bank expanded especially rapidly during the 1980s by acquiring a large number of smaller banks.

Since 2000, the bank has appeared to be a part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. However, NatWest later became a subsidiary of NatWest Holdings, which, in turn, tends to be a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. Nowadays, NatWest Bank tends to be one of the Big Four clearing banks in the United Kingdom.

As a matter of fact, NatWest can also boast to have an extensive network of ATMs and branches throughout the country. The bank appears to be one of the largest in the United Kingdom, having more than 7.5 million customers and 850,000 small business accounts.
