PNC Bank: Introduction
Similar to the banks that are recognized as the Big Four America’s banks (such as Wells Fargo), PNC Bank can boast to have a pretty long history since its foundation back in 1845. Even though the bank originated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as Pittsburgh Trust and Savings Company in 1845, it became fully operational only by 1852.
During the next century, PNC Bank gradually developed. By the end of the 1950s, PNC Bank has completed a number of acquisitions and evolved into the Pittsburgh National Bank. In 1982, Provident National Corporation and Pittsburgh National Corporation completed a merger, which resulted in the formation of PNC Financial Corporation.
Nowadays, PNC Bank tends to be one of the largest banks in the United States. It is the fourth-largest bank by number of ATMs, the fifth-largest by a number of branches, the sixth largest by a number of deposits, and the eighth largest by total assets.
The company specializes in retail banking, but also provides a number of other financial services, including information processing, loan servicing, real estate planning, wealth management, and asset management.
