Zions Bank: Introduction
Zions Bank is a bank and a financial services company, which also tends to be fully owned by Zions Bancorporation. With a capitalization of $66 billion, Zions Bancorporation was the 41th-largest bank in the United States (at the middle of 2018).
The roots of Zions Bank date back to 1873, when it was first opened as Zion’s Savings Bank and Trust Company by Brigham Young. At that time, Zions Bank appeared to be the first bank company in Utah. Soon afterwards, in 1893, the bank had to weather the market panic – the bank not only withstood it, but also succeeded to expand further.
The bank suffered a lot from the Great Depression, and it took decades to recover from it. In 1957, a merger between Zion’s Savings Bank and Trust Company, Utah Savings and Trust Company, and First National Bank of Salt Lake City resulted in the formation of Zions First National Bank. Nowadays, Zions Bancorporation appears to be a parent company of other banks, including Nevada State Bank, National Bank of Arizona, California Bank and Trust, Amegy Bank of Texas, Vectra Bank Colorado, and Zions Direct.
